Dear brothers and sisters, Fiat!
The Word is the great protagonist of the battle that is unleashed in the desert. On the one hand there is Jesus, the Son of God made man. The Spirit drives Him out into the wilderness and fills Him with overflowing grace. On the other hand, the evil one, a sly companion of 40 days of loneliness and deprivation, who makes the weakness shared by the Son an occasion of temptation and trial.
The Word is the winning weapon of Jesus. He appeals to its power that acts, to its effectiveness that disarms, to its power that generates and transforms. Jesus knows the Word well, because He is the Word; but at the same time it is the Word that reveals to Him His own vocation and mission.
However, something scandalous happens: even the devil knows the Word, he quotes and uses the Word to make temptation harder and more insidious. We can be perfect knowers of the Word, without it becoming a reason for salvation and transfiguration. How is it possible? What differentiates the Son of God who saves from satan that accuses and condemns?
Two paths, two environments of life are manifested as necessary so that the Word remains itself, an instrument of liberation.
The first is the visceral solidarity with the fragility of the human creature. Jesus goes through this itinerary in the desert: He experiences weakness in the flesh, until He is hungry. He really was very hungry! He had in His body the tangible signs of the price of being a man; He felt the weight of the creature, a paradoxical weight because it comes from the emptiness of her own smallness. Jesus, who is God, experienced the emptiness of those who are not God, although desperately wanting to reach their summits. In this experience of life, in this courageous journey within the derangement of the desert, which generates confusion and need, Jesus remained without discounts. Here is the first step necessary for the Word to remain itself and be true: it must burn from the burn of our limit, it must cut the human aspirations that claim greatness as a double-edged sword, making all the pain of pruning felt. Jesus carries this wound in His flesh. This is why the Word is illuminated by the flame of the Spirit.
On the contrary, the evil one looks at weakness as a skeptical spectator and refuses it as an impediment to its realization. For this reason, as faith teaches us, he fell from Paradise, because he claimed an existence of creatures with the prerogatives of God. He who considers life, made of poverty and pain, as a spectacle to be judged and refused, can not grasp the Word in its revealing and liberating power, but he will make it an object for its own use and consumption, to justify his own egoistic viciousness.
But, it is not enough to be inside life to live it well and overcome temptations. It is also necessary to have the gaze turned towards the others, towards the Other, that is, Jesus. We should not be focused only on ourselves. It is the second vital environment, our delivering to God. Jesus has His eyes fixed on the Father. Jesus is the Son, but God is the Father. And the Word belongs to God: Jesus lets Himself be possessed and led, because we should not travel the way of the desert alone. The Word mentioned only starting from our needs is disfigured. The devil abuses it, because he has its gaze focused on himself, and wants to make others just an instrument to exploit. In this sense, the Word can really become for us strength to face a trial that transforms us if we continually have our heart anchored to the Source, and our ears attentive to listen to Him who says the Word.
It is the experience of the people of Israel, for whom the desert is the path wanted by God. "Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. "(Dt 8,2). The Word of God becomes a guide that is laborious and hard as a sharp blade that distinguishes good from evil in our hearts. But that is the only way if we constantly worry about addressing God, who incessantly pronounces this Word with His Voice of mercy. No individualistic use of the Word is a source of good; "no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation. " (2 Pet 1:30), the Apostle Peter reminds us.
In the passage from September 8, 1927, Jesus explained to Luisa the meaning of the forty days in the desert. He said that He went to the desert to call back that same Divine Will of His which, for forty centuries, creatures had deserted from their midst; and He, for forty days, wanted to remain alone, to repair for the forty centuries of human will during which His had not possessed Its Kingdom in the midst of the human family; and with His very Divine Will Jesus wanted to call It back again into their midst, so that It might reign. Upon returning from the desert, Jesus deposited It in His Mother, with all those acts of Divine Will which creatures had rejected and had kept as though in a desert, so that She might be the faithful depository, the repairer and the impetrator of the Kingdom of the Divine Will. Only the Sovereign Lady could possess this deposit so great, because She possessed within Herself the very Divine Will which could contain the Will deserted by creatures. How could they occupy Themselves with their sorrow of being separated for forty days, when it was about reintegrating - about calling back the Divine Will to reign in the midst of creatures? In their sorrow they were more than happy, because They wanted to place the Kingdom of the Supreme Fiat in safety, and the Celestial Queen was waiting with yearnings for His return, in order to receive the deposit of the new Sun, so as to requite with Her love all of Its acts, which the human ingratitude had rejected. She acted as true Mama to the Divine Will, acting as true Mother also for creatures, impetrating for all the life, the happiness, the joy of possessing the Kingdom of the Eternal Fiat.
